Just a quick report on the run-

A total of 10 cars transporting 17 smiling faces was the turnout on the day, 15 at Shell EPIC with Dennis and Jill joining us at Gunning.

Weather was excellent, fairly cool at EPIC but warming up nicely by the time we arrived at Gunning. Bloody glad I had booked us in to the Merino Cafe, cos the place was jammed packed, apart from the tables reserved for the MX5 Club out in the sunlit barby area at the rear of the shop. Understandably, it took a while for our coffee orders to be filled but the conversation was at full flow and we all enjoyed just sitting there soaking up the warm sunshine, so an hour or so quickly slipped by while we gossiped and guzzled good coffee.

From Gunning we made our way over traffic free roads (excluding 2 sheep, plus a stupid pigeon that flew up into my windscreen, and a black snake (which Iris reckoned I ran over but it's not true) traversing a panorama of rolling hills through Dalton, Jerrawa and then the Yass Valley Way to south Yass and on to Wee Jasper.

The Wee Jasper road comes down off the escarpment as you get close to the Murrumbidgee valley and winds its way in a series of sharp, occasionally bumpy bends to the river crossing. From there, you pass the Mountain Creek road turnoff and the road climbs again in another series of sharp corners. Great Mex driving but a lot of the corners are blind. This is the same as you descend to the Goodradigbee river crossing into Wee Jasper - fun driving but you need to be very wary as you cant see anything coming the other way on a number of corners and the road isn't all that wide with very little verge on either side.

At Wee Jasper the host of the Stables Tavern was Janet, attractive, husky lass, broad of bosom and equally friendly disposition who took our lunch orders in quick time. The formal 'restaurant menu' I had seen on my initial reconnoitre was not in evidence and I suspect Janet may have concluded  that the plain old 'Bar Menu' is all that the bulk of her patronage will look for.  And from what I could observe, members seemed satisfied enough with that. The Chicken and Rosemary Hamburger that I ordered certainly tasted great and it was pretty filling too. (N.B. However, there was no expresso machine in sight and coffee/tea was not listed on the menu.)

We finished up close to 3pm and people made their own way home - a couple of us stopping off at Yass for coffee there.

That's about it.   Not a bad run to keep on our itinerary of future
monthly runs, possibly I'd keep it for the springtime cos the countryside out there would be lime green with new growth then.

Cheers
Malcolm
